RTI Captures a Moment in History With The Katrina CamKatrina Cam Images captured along I-10 in downtown New Orleans, near Xavier UniversityThe Katrina Cam earned its name and reputation for its invaluable service during the time Hurricane Katrina pummeled Louisiana. In 2002, eight portable, trailer mounted solar powered RTI cameras were positioned along I-10 for a highway reconstruction project in New Orleans. In the ensuing years, both motorists and public safety staff came to rely on the images from the cameras. As Hurricane Katrina approached the Gulf Coast in 2005, instead of breaking down the cameras and putting them in a secure location, the Louisiana Department of Transportation asked that they remain deployed to provide live traffic images to assist in the evacuation of New Orleans and the surrounding area. The cameras not only survived the Category 3 hurricane force winds of between 111 and 130 mph and the constant driving rain, but continued to provide images from the city through the blackout until the flood waters submerged their on-board electrical power supplies. Rugged and lightweight, these cameras are ideal for a wide range of installations and come complete with the following equipment: · SiteCam wireless camera mounted on trailer mast · 120 Watt solar array for unpowered construction sites · Deep cycle storage batteries that can provide up to 30 days of sunless power · Rugged welded frame · Telescoping 30 foot camera mast with hand crank · 360° mast rotation to facilitate aiming · Collapsible, foldable mast for ease of transport · Outrigger leveling jacks for platform stability · Deployable in minutes · Ideal for job sites without electrical power or existing mounting structures · Under 2000 pounds and towable with a light duty pickup truck The Katrina is available for sale or lease.
