RTI's real-time web site: a national first, and a new standard... In 2001, RTI created and hosted the nation's first real-time work zone traffic conditions web site for the Lake Springfield Bridge reconstruction on behalf of Illinois Department of Transportation. The site provided color-coded traffic speeds, camera images and messages displayed on each of 17 portable changeable message signs. Real-time traffic information was integrated automatically into the web site. The Internet page was designed to reflect the look and feel of IDOT's own web site. Since pioneering this important first in providing live traffic information to motorists via the Internet, RTI has continued to develop real-time traffic web sites and specialty project sites, with new features and expanded functionality. This web site for Illinois Department of Transportation was the first in the country to display real-time traffic conditions and public advisories. The web site is now inactive: for a more complete sample, go to: trafalert.biz/Springfield/i55Springfield.htm. |
